Mathews Hall, Harvard University

Mathews Hall was a truly unique project and is amongst the most significant historical masonry restoration projects undertaken by Phoenix.

Phoenix cleaned the exterior of the building of surface dirts and pollutants that had accumulated over decades. All of the mortar joints in the brick and stone were removed and replaced with new mortar to match the original in color and strength. The porticos, landings, balusters, railings and steps on the east and west elevations were documented, dismantled, stored and protected, Phoenix then re-assembled them to their original locations. Some elements of stone and brick on the building that had been damaged beyond repair were replicated and replaced. This project was truly a magnificent display of historic masonry restoration and preservation at its best.
